Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the main straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
